Carlos Garcia Named Didi Hirsch Board Chair
For Immediate Release
Multinational Executive Search Consultant to Chair
Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services’ Board of Directors
LOS ANGELES, Calif. July 14, 2014—Heidrick & Struggles Partner Carlos Garcia, an international executive search and leadership consultant who is passionate about erasing the stigma of mental illness, is the new chair of Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services’ Board of Directors.
A first generation American born in Washington, D.C. to an immigrant family with South American roots, Garcia says his family’s experience with mental illness inspired him to join Didi Hirsch’s Board in 2009.
“Affective disorders run in my family,” Garcia says. “I believe it’s important to speak honestly about mental illness because stigma—especially in Hispanic communities—prevents many people from seeking help,”
Garcia specializes in recruiting senior supply chain executives for companies in the life sciences, such as pharmaceuticals, bio-pharma, medical equipment, medical devices and diagnostics. He has extensive multinational experience leading business transformation programs for Booz & Company in South America and Europe. He also worked for Pfizer Pharmaceutical in key production management and strategic planning roles.
Garcia, who speaks fluent English and Spanish, says Didi Hirsch is “uniquely positioned to expand the reach and quality of client services, while also raising awareness of mental health issues in the richly diverse communities we serve. The shared commitment to this purpose is palpable among all the agency’s employees and volunteers.”
Garcia has an MA in Business Administration from Columbia Business School, where he was awarded the McKim Fellowship and completed a triple concentration in Operations Management, Marketing and Management of Organizations. He earned a BA in Economics at Haverford College.
Garcia moved to Los Angeles from Mexico City in 2004. He and his wife have four children and live in Calabasas.
